Summarize, ask questions, or extract key data — AI reads your PDF in seconds.
Need to add page numbers to a PDF before printing, sharing, or submitting? Upload your file, pick a format and position, and download the numbered PDF. Filator gives you 5 number formats, 9 placement options, and full control over font size and color — all free, no signup, no Adobe subscription.
The whole process happens in your browser. Your PDF never gets uploaded to a server. For legal documents, contracts, or anything confidential, that matters.
| Format | Example | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Simple | 1, 2, 3 | Clean look, minimal documents |
| Page prefix | Page 1, Page 2 | Formal reports, legal docs |
| With total | 1 of 10, 2 of 10 | Multi-page forms, submissions |
| Full format | Page 1 of 10 | Professional documents, contracts |
| Custom | {n}/{p}, Section A-{n} | Any custom layout you need |
The custom format uses {n} for the current page number and {p} for the total page count. You can combine these with any text you want — "Sheet {n} of {p}", "Appendix-{n}", whatever your document needs.
Most documents have a cover page, maybe a table of contents. You don't want those numbered. Here's how to handle it:
| Feature | Filator | iLovePDF | Adobe Acrobat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Free (limited) | $20/month |
| Number Formats | 5 + custom | 3 | Many |
| Positions | 9 | 6 | Many |
| Processing | In your browser | Server upload | Desktop app |
| Signup | No | For unlimited | Yes (paid) |
| File Limit | Unlimited | 2 files (free) | Unlimited |
Look — Adobe Acrobat has more features overall, but it costs $240/year. For adding page numbers? That's overkill. iLovePDF works but caps you at 2 files on the free tier and uploads your documents to their servers. Filator does the job without either problem.
Number pages before printing a report or manual. Makes it easy to reassemble if pages get mixed up.
Contracts and filings often require numbered pages. Use "Page 1 of 10" format for official submissions.
Theses and dissertations need page numbers. Skip the cover page by setting Start Page to 2 or 3.
After merging multiple PDFs, add sequential page numbers to the combined document for consistent navigation.
Upload your PDF, pick a format (1, 2, 3 or "Page 1 of 10", etc.), choose a position (9 options), set font size and color, and click "Add Page Numbers". Download immediately. No signup, no server upload.
Yes. Set "Start Page" to 2 (or 3 if you also have a table of contents). The first N pages won't be numbered. You can also set the starting number independently — so page 3 of the PDF can display "1".
Five: simple numbers (1, 2, 3), "Page 1", "1 of 10", "Page 1 of 10", and custom format where you use {n} for the page number and {p} for the total count.
Nine positions: any combination of top/middle/bottom and left/center/right. Bottom-center is the default and the most common choice for most documents.
No. Page numbers are added using pdf-lib directly in your browser. Your file never leaves your device. That makes this safe for contracts, medical records, and anything confidential.
Yes. Default font size is 12, and you can change it to anything that fits your document. Color picker lets you match your document's style — black, gray, or any custom color.
100MB per PDF. Since it processes in your browser, very large files may take a bit longer depending on your device.
Scroll up and drop your PDF. Pick format, position, and style — download numbered pages in seconds. No signup, no watermark, no server upload. Just merged several PDFs? Merge them first, then come back here to add sequential page numbers.
